Unlike the commercial music that many now identify as Hip Hop, the UK scene has created its own distinctive sound while staying true to the original movement: poetry, turntables, samples, tales of urban life, and powerful lyrical flows.

Many UK Hip Hop artists emphasise the importance of political and spiritual awareness in their lyrics. For many, Hip Hop remains a powerful form of social criticsm that gives voice to marginalised groups.

UK Hip Hop remains an underground movement, as the major music industry and media outlets have denied a public platform to the authentic scene.
